100 DAYS: UZODIMMA’S GIFT TO IMO PEOPLE IN COVID-19
…ORDERS REPAINTING OF TAXIS AND BUSES IN IMO FOR N100K EACH!
… IHEDIOHA DIDN’T DO THAT IN HIS SEVEN MONTHS!
By Ogu Bundu Nwadike, M.A
It’s exactly 100 days today, Saturday, April 25, 2020, since the Made in Supreme Court governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma assumed office.
It calls for celebration by Imo people, as was the case on Thursday, September 5, 2019, when His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ogbuagu Emeka Ihedioha CON KSC FNIFST clocked his first 100 days in office.
But today, Imo people are in sombre mood over the cluelessness, ineptitude and incompetence of Uzodimma as their governor. Ndimo are literarily mourning their bad luck in the Supreme Court imposing Uzodimma upon them.
An example of why it’s a very bad 100 days in office by Uzodimma is his decision to charge taxi and bus transporters in the State an alleged sum of N100,000 to repaint their vehicles from the current Taximo and Busimo colours to white and blue to generate revenue.
That’s a very bad 100 days in office gift from Uzodimma to Imo people. It’ll subject the transporters and eventually the citizens to very hard and harsh economic experience.
The alert to the plan by Uzodimma was conveyed vide a statement signed by one Ebere Uzoukwa, SA Media/Special Project to the Commissioner for Transport, Imo State, Rex Añunobi, and dated 23rd April 2020.
A paragraph of the statement read thus: “Barr. Anunobi further disclosed that all commercial vehicles including those on intra and interstate routes will henceforth be routed and fleeted by the Ministry of Transport to entrench sanity in the transport sector in accordance with the Shared Prosperity vision of Gov. Hope Uzodimma.”
The question is how does the imposition of the repainting of taxis and buses amount to sharing of prosperity? It’s simply a sharing of poverty! Is Uzodimma sharing prosperity or poverty among Imo people?
It’s most wicked that such plan is being announced by Uzodimma in the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, when poverty, hunger, disease and death are traumatizing Imo people that are forced to stay at home under lockdown orders. That’s evil in action!
It may be recalled that all through his award-winning seven months in office, Gov. Ihedioha was advised to order the repainting of Taximo and Busimo to raise revenue. But he refused to take such advice. He told the State Executive Council (SEC) then, that he won’t want to add to the suffering of Imo people by approving the repainting of the taxi and bus colours.
Generally, that decision is a very bad one. Imo people are under pressure of COVID-19 pandemic. No money. No market. No business. No movement. Yet, Uzodimma is imposing more burden of repainting taxis and buses to white and blue!
The only thing Imo people can do is to stand up and resist the bad decision. The very poor and abysmally low performance of Uzodimma won’t be made better with white and blue colour taxis and buses.
Ndimo must say a big NO to extortion by Uzodimma. He has got about N50 billion revenue on behalf of Imo people, yet he can’t pay salaries and pensions. In short, he can’t account for the N50 billion!
All Imo people hear daily are lies, falsehood, propaganda and blackmail by Uzodimma against the award-winning Rt. Hon. Ogbuagu Emeka Ihedioha. That must stop! Ndimo deserves good governance not stories of repainting of already painted taxis and buses!
By God’s grace, Imo State must be rebuilt!
